Dr. Eldon Yellowhorn is from Peigan Indian Reserve (Piikani Nation). He studied archeology at the University of Calgary and McGill University and is currently an Associate Professor at Simon Fraser University. His early career in archaeology began in southern Alberta where he studied the ancient cultures of the plains. Dr. Yellowhorn’s internalist approach to researching antiquity began from his knowledge of the internal dialogue that his Piikani ancestors held in their mythology.
Ms. Karen Aird is from Saulteau First Nations. She has worked as an archaeologist and Cultural Heritage Planner for the past 25 years and has led many First Nations-related projects that convey a strong Sense of Place in landscapes and spaces, encompassing the stories, legal traditions and the intangible and tangible elements into cultural heritage planning. She is president of the Indigenous Heritage Circle and is the Heritage Program Manager for the First Peoples Cultural Council. Ms. Aird focuses on creating a voice for Indigenous people on all issues related to heritage.
Chris Wiebe has been the organizer of the National Trust’s annual national conference since joining the National Trust in 2006. In addition, he assists with the National Trust’s government relations, advocacy work, and development of positions on heritage policies. Chris holds Master of Arts degrees from Carleton University (Canadian Studies - Heritage Conservation) and the University of Alberta (English). He has been an instructor in the Cultural Resource Management Program at the University of Victoria since 2012, and sits on the Willowbank School for Restoration Arts Advisory Council (2015–present).
