AN EVENT IN THE SERIES OF EVENTS DURING SEPTEMBER 2019

BATTLE RIVER 'FESTIVAL OF FESTIVALS’

AND THE LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR OF ALBERTA DISTINGUISHED ARTIST AWARDS

SEPTEMBER 7 and 8, 2019

At Mistahiya Retreat Centre on the Battle River

Sept. 7 Saturday:

Ticket sales on site:

Adults: $20; Youth: $10; Preschool free

Complimentary camping (unserviced); Food concession

9am -10:30am.: Medicine Walk with Creeteacher

Calvin Laliberte (Kamewkwaniaso) from Smokey Lake

11am-noon interpretive Nature Walk to Bird tower along the Battle River with members of Wainwright Wildlife Society

Afternoon program and entertainment:

1-2 pm: Cree Nation grouse/Mamio or chicken dance with drum. (group participation welcome)

2-2:45: music by Brianne Bergerud and Mark Perkins

3–3:45: Vermilion Trio

4-4:30: Vermilion Pipes and Drums and Highland dancers

4:30-6pm: Gourmet Supper (beef and bison) catered by Red Feather Ridge

6-7:30pm. Daniel Gervais 4 piece band https://www.danielgervais.ca/home-accueil

Camping: open field camp area for over 100 units (unserviced)

Friday night and/or Saturday night

Sept. 8:

Schmidt gallery tour and 2 lakes Sunday tour

OPTIONS:

1. Explore area around Mistahiya: hiking trails (7.5 km. along the river). Follow trails to the fresh water spring and to the summit of Mistahiya. Canoe or kayak.

2. Take a guided tour to historic sites south of Czar:

Treaty 6 monument, Teepee rings, Stampede cairn at Big Valley Gap in the Neutral hills, McCord ranch, RCMP barracks, Indian effigy and Mud flats. Also Birding and possibly lunch at Gooseberry lake.

WHAT TO BRING:

Lawn chair, all weather clothing, water, snacks.

All events are OUTDOORS. Covered stage for entertainment.

Supper served in Lodge; picnic tables are available indoors and outdoors.

Area not licensed for alcohol.
